Taxi, Jeep, Scooter and Bicycle

 Rent a Jeep

To visit Cayo Santa Maria, the surrounding islands and even the villages between the airport and Cayo Santa Maria, it is possible to rent a car or a Jeep (manual transmission only).

For rentals, you must provide your driver license and your passport (photocopy is enough). The rental price includes insurance.

The vehicle is rented with full tank, you must return it in this condition, or you will pay the difference. The only gas station near the resorts is in front of the local airport in Cayo Las Brujas. It is better to pay cash (CUC only).

Here are the prices (2009) ...

  • Jeep: 47 CUC (including insurance) for the first 100 km (0.35 CUC per extra km)
  • Auto: 59 CUC (including insurance) for the first 100 km (0.35 CUC per extra km)

    •  Taxi

    There is a taxi service available 24hrs in all hotels of Cayo Santa Maria and in the Iberostar Ensenachos (on the neighbor island Cayo Ensenachos). It is mandatory to book 24 hours in advance, especially if you want to go to the airport located about one hour thirty minutes away.

  • Caibarien (round): 35 CUC / (return): 65 CUC
  • Remedios (round): 40 CUC / (return): 75 CUC
  • Santa Clara (round): 65 CUC / (return): 130 CUC
  • Cayo Santa Maria (round): 5 CUC / (return): 10 CUC

    •  Rent a Scooter

    It is possible to be two on the same scooter, but it is better to take one per person, because the seats are sometimes small and scooters are not very powerful. Pay attention to the sandy roads in Cayo Santa Maria and Cayo Las Brujas, because sometimes there are potholes. Wearing a helmet is now mandatory in Cuba. It is not recommended to go to neighboring villages on a scooter, more than fifty kilometers away.

  • 1 hour: 10 CUC
  • From 1 @ 2 days: 31 CUC/day
  • From 3 @ 5 jours: 22 CUC/day
  • More than 5 days: 18 CUC/day

    • Please, do not drive your vehicle if you are drunk, not even a scooter! The causeway and the roads in Cayo Santa Maria are not lit and can be slippery and sometimes with pot holes. It is important to know that if you injure a Cuban while intoxicated, you will persecute and will have to pay the costs of hospitalization of the injured person.

     Bike

    The hotels in the islands have bicycles (except for the Barcelo Cayo Santa Maria). They are generally in the same areas as the rental office. In an environment of salt air, it deteriorates more rapidly and bicycles are no exception. A bike is good to visit the neighborhood. Please note that bikes are no longer free in the many hotels in Cuba!

     Shuttle bus

    There is a shuttle to visit the Pueblo La Estrella. This is a small village with many amenities, including restaurants, bars, discos, massage, billiards, bowling, etc.. Everybody can enjoy the ride to visit the Pueblo La Estrella area located East of the Barcelo Cayo Santa Maria Beach.
